Principal's Message

I would like on behalf of the staff and the Board of Trustees welcome you to Knighton Normal School – A Great Place to Be! We are a U6, decile 5 state contributing school for children in their first six years of formal education. As a Normal School we have a close relationship with the School of Education at the University of Waikato where we help provide part of the practical component of pre service teacher training.

The ethnic composition of our school roll is most diverse. We have children from more than 50 different nationalities. These children make up nearly a third of our school’s roll. The remainder of the roll is split equally between New Zealand European and Maori

The school has an enrolment policy which the Ministry of Education has just reconfirmed. The School opens each year with a roll of approximately 590 and we finish the year with around 660 children. A copy of our enrolment zone is available on our web site.

The school operates an open door policy and we strongly believe in a close working partnership with our parents. We are dedicated to providing a quality education for each child in the best possible learning environment and we have a strong set of beliefs outlined in “The Knighton Way” which we believe permeates all aspects our school life and ensures that Knighton is indeed a Great Place to Be.

I hope your family's association with Knighton Normal School will be enjoyable and rewarding and I look forward to meeting you.
